Must Watch Tributes to Science, Reason and Freethinkers

Must watch tributes to science, reason and the freethinkers. Great words, with images and music, are just awe inspiring. It’s art and science coming together in glorious HD.  <3

1. Richard Dawkins – “We Are Going To Die”

Dawkins reads an excerpt from his book “Unweaving the Rainbow”.

music: Faure – Op. 11 – Cantique de Jean Racine

“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born… In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.”

2. Christopher Hitchens – “Take The Risk of Thinking for Yourself”

Closing remarks of Hitchens in the Hitchens vs Debmski debate, November 2010.

music: DeVotchKa – How It Ends

“I want to live my life taking the risk all the time that I don’t know anything like enough yet, that I haven’t understood enough, that I can’t know enough, and I’m always hungrily operating on the margins of a potentially great harvest of future knowledge and wisdom. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

3. Carl Sagan – “Pale Blue Dot”

“It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world.”

music: Vangelis – Cosmos

  1. just the videos to watch when you’re losing perspective or when you want a better appreciation for life and thinking.

hitchens’ tribute reminds me of his condition. i’m sad for the man. he is such an inspiration. and his voice helped get rid of the guilt people dump on me for being an atheist
